Designed and developed a student tracking application for NexusBiometrics, Inc. Florida. NexusBiometrics is a leader in biometric technology. Cenango custom designed a biometric sensor to work on a Nextel IDEN mobile phone in early 2004. The goal of this project was to prevent kids getting lost en-route to school or back home from school. The system used GPS, fingerprinting and county GIS maps to track students. Parents could log in to a web portal to check on their kids. School bus administrators could use the routing data to minimize drive times and reduce overall costs. This was way before Foursquare was even dreamt of.
Soon after the tragic 2004 Tsunami struck, we were frantically trying to locate friends and family in Sri Lanka. All the landlines were down, the only thing that worked was SMS and the internet (in certain unaffected parts of the Island). We suddenly became a human exchange of information, it was becoming overwhelming. So we setup helpSL.org, a website that would serve as an exchange for finding loved ones. Once word spread, the site grew so quickly that we had to move the site to four different web hosts as web traffic was increasing so rapidly the servers could not keep up with the bandwidth. We hosted a forum within HelpSL where people could communicate freely. Forum requests were made for things like Penicillin to water purification systems, most of these requests were answered by individuals living in other countries.
Precious old photos are some of the most treasured possessions we have - i.e. photos predating the digital photo era. We spend countless hours trying to manually scan each photo making sure we don't bend or tear the delicate photo paper. Memories Inc, contracted Cenango to solve this very problem.
